Date and time representation

There are many ways of repesenting dates and times, durations, and approximate dates in a machine-readable manner. For the purpose of the Cinematographic Works Standards, it is less of a question which one ist best, but rather how to identify and describe a particular method in use.

ISO 8601

This is the well-known ISO standard for Gregorian dates in the form YYYYMMDD (also written as YYYY-MM-DD). The standard also defines notations for calendar weeks, time of day and time zone, and periods of time. ISO 8601 is referenced in many other standards and specifications that include representations for dates and times.
